| My art is inspired by a love for the role of plants
in shaping the landscape and how they combine with weather and geology
to give a unique sense of place.
Colour in the natural environment is the thread that ties the work
I am doing at the moment. My paintings of the Cumbrian fells are
about how colour transforms the landscape and captures the attention,
be it a splash in the foreground, the broad sweep of a whole hillside
or a glimpse through the undergrowth.
I am experimenting with new ways of making felt from Cumbrian Herdwick
sheep. My textiles made from natural fleece embedded with other
fibres reflect the colours of the Cumbrian Landscape and their origin.
I am also hand dyeing using a graded dyeing technique which provide
a wide variety of exciting colours and effects which I am making
into a variety of quilted works.
I have a teaching Diploma and work freelance for Welfare State
International in Ulverston on their Flag and Lantern Festivals.
I organise and run workshops in schools and other organisations,
in making flags, lanterns, felt and dyed fabrics.
I have had exhibitions of my work in Botswana, Essex and Cumbria.
