| The textures, forms and images of the Lake District
mountains, valleys and gills inspire much of the work. Ways of treating
the surface of clay as a 'canvas' on which to paint are currently
being explored. Surfaces are enriched with impressed patterns and
coloured slips. Matt finishes are preferred and most pieces are
given an oxide wash before the final firing.
Much of the ceramic work is sculptural/functional and for use in
the garden or conservatory. All of the work is frost proof. The
recent acquisition of a large kiln has provided opportunities for
work on more ambitious scale than was previously possible. Other
work is for use in domestic interiors.
